Skiing Holiday
Your bags are packed. Your gear is in the car. You’re raring to go on that skiing holiday trip you’ve been planning.
As you load up all your stuff and take one last look at your house, which you’re hoping not to see for at least a couple of weeks, take a few minutes to consider some safety tips provided below. Because no matter how much you’ve been looking forward to letting yourself go during your skiing holiday vacation, it does not hurt to play on the safe side of things.
The Right Equipment
Getting the right equipment is a primary concern of every skier. Not only does the right equipment ensure that you get the most out of your skiing holiday, it also gives the added benefit of a safe one.
But what is the right equipment? The right equipment necessarily means skis and boots that are especially suited to you. Keeping that in mind when shopping for skiing gear, do not over or underestimate your abilities to the shop staff. If the boots hurt or are uncomfortable, do not hesitate to return them and ask for another one that fits.
Walk Right
They’re not called skiing boots for nothing. Compared to regular boots, your skiing boots have a different construction, making them easy to walk on if you are on snowy slopes. It is not recommended that you wear them when walking on the flat. However, if you do find yourself having to walk on flat ground with your skiing boots on, be sure to undo the upper clips around your ankles. Doing this will allow your feet to stay flat to the ground.
Wear a Helmet
Times have changed. Before, wearing a helmet was not considered “cool.” Helmets used to be huge, bulky, and entirely cumbersome to wear. Now, not anymore. In fact, manufacturers are now trying to produce lighter, more comfortable, and more affordable helmets to protect your head. So you really have no reason not to wear a helmet. Not wearing one is not cool, it’s just stupid. And most skiing holiday resorts these days are requiring children to wear helmets. Now adults have also taken to this safety trend.
Beware of the Sun
Always bear in mind that the effects of the sun in the snow are different compared to its effects on the beach. The sun rays that bounce off the snow are usually more intense. That is why, when you are on a skiing holiday, never forget to wear sun creams. You might even want to consider one of those strong sun creams that are especially formulated for skiers. Eye protection such as sun glasses or sun goggles are also highly recommended.
